HISTORY

The Miroglio Group Textile Unit history starts in 1947, when Giuseppe Miroglio, the company's founder, set up his own industrial business. He acquired four looms and installed them in the storehouses he had built in the centre of Alba fifteen years earlier. Since then, his business has evolved through several different stages.

The first really modern textile factory was opened in the suburbs of Alba, featuring the latest technology.

The factory doubled in size and the manual looms were substituted for 250 automatic looms. Over the following years further expansion and improvements took place until the new textile factory equipped with 450 looms was built in 1962. Despite the fact that this factory was subsequently closed, it is still a milestone in the history of the Division.

The production of spun yarn started in 1974 in the plant at Saluzzo (Province of Cuneo) with the installation of the first spinning machine for polyester yarn.

Sublitex was founded, with the head office in Guarene d'Alba, (Province of Cuneo). The plant began with two printing machines, increasing to eight over the years. Miroglio USA, with its head office in New York, was founded the same year, to market and sell printed materials with the transfer method.

The loom plant in Tunis was founded, and throughout its history it has encountered various ups and downs. Expanded at the beginning of the nineties, today it is a joint venture with Niggeler & Kupfer.

* The first spinning tower for polyester yarn was built in the Saluzzo factory. Since then and up to this day it has undergone several building expansions and technological innovations.
* The Govone Printing Division commenced operations. Its production doubled during the nineties until it became one of the largest in Europe. Today, the factory extends over a surface area of almost 50,000 m2 and produces 28,000,000 m per year.

The circular loom factory in the town of Novello (Province of Cuneo) commenced operations. It was later expanded with the construction of a modern semi-automatic warehouse.

The automatic cylinder warehouse opened, simplifying and speeding up the cylinder handling process - cylinders are sent to the production and sampling departments. Today it can store 17,000 cylinders.

* The new loom factory at Ginosa (Province of Taranto) was established.
* Creation of an important spinning sector in the Ginosa factory (Province of Taranto) which extends over 11,000 m2 and produces 2,300,000 kg. of yarn.

The Miroglio Group starts to invest in Bulgaria. Thanks to the Sliven wool mill acquisition, the creation of a new printing plant in Elin Pelin and the opening of a new spinning plant in Nova Zagora, the Group has also in that area the best production units covering the entire textile productive processes.
